Realistic exercise scenario
A fundamental part of the MODEX.EU exercises are a challenging and realistic exercise scenario. All aspects of relief and rescue effort are simulated. The scenario involves the services of all modules as well as the Technical Assistance and Support Teams.
Imagine…
Imagine an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 on the MMS scale has struck in K-land. The damage is huge. Aftershocks are expected.
Or imagine large forest fires in K-Land and temperatures that will increase the following days.
Relevance
Such scenarios do no take much imagination to construct, as, sadly, the world is regularly afflicted by major disasters. Think of the recent floods in Pakistan (September 2011), the forest fires in Greece and Albania (August 2011), the severe drought in the Horn of Africa (July 2011) and the earthquakes in Haiti (winter 2010).
Training facilities
Weeze (BOTC)
The training centre in Weeze offers the infrastructure needed to practice response to such crises. Formerly a British military base, it is a full-fledged facility (38 ha.) featuring real-life exercise objects: 150 metres of highway with crash rail and exit ramp, a gas station, a power plant, school buildings, a swimming pool, including a water purification area, train tracks with wagons, an airplane, 300 houses and numerous collapsed buildings. Fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks or any disasters may be simulated here. Thanks to its existing infrastructure, Weeze is a truly unique centre in Europe.
Moreton-in-Marsh (The Fire Service College)
The Fire Service College incident ground is a former WW2 RAF base. They have one of the largest and most complete range of fire training facilities in the world. Their unique facilities enable their delegates to train in the most realistic conditions possible in a range of locations that replicate conditions they will encounter in their day to day role.
The following incident grounds are available:
Fire investigation units, Fire behaviour units, M96 Motorway, Domestic building, Rail incident complex, Multi-use commercial building, Industrial facility, BA school, Aircraft (Merlin helicopter), Industrial / high rise facility, USAR facility, Aircraft (passenger jet), Marine & ship training, Fire screen, Gas storage tanks, Aircraft (737 training rig), Oil rig.
Fos-sur-Mer (CIREEX)
CIREEX is a training centre specialised in industrial risk control. They have a training ground of 10.000 m² with 8 real-life exercise objects.
